I haven't muted anyone yet (aside from when I was testing it). I probably won't mute anyone either, but I like knowing that it's available should I choose to use it.

It would be good if there was some way of seeing who has you muted.

 yes, i agree. seeing who has muted you might minimize confusion as well

Using the mute feature tells me an awful lot about the mindset of the thin skinned, weak cunts that use it. 

You're not very observant. The mute feature is a great tool to piss off thin skinned, attention whores like dex and gia. :D
