optimist - a person disposed to take a favorable view of things

these 2 are opposite ends of a magnet

the opposite of  catastrophizing  is Self-Delusional Positive Thinking

these 2 are a looping effect

it's an interesting topic but you have the wrong word

If something terrible happens, I imagine all of the possible outcomes (catastrophize) then work out all of the possible solutions (optimize).

I share my thoughts with others if they are part of the situation and can be part of the solution.

Verbiage aside, I'm more interested in people's responses to stress than improving my vocabulary.

Like Smiley, I have an odd view when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm a hopeful pessimist. I expect that everything's going to go horribly wrong deep down, but I always try to convince myself otherwise, and I hope for the best. Even though I tend to feel nothing can be done to help in dire situations, I'll still give it my best shot if there's no harm in trying. And if a hopeful pessimist can't actually exist, and this doesn't sound pessimistic enough for what I would class myself as, then I have no clue what I am.
