I don't know who that is... so, can't really make any comments yet.
??? When Christmas is over, will you switch to a regular Toaster? Since you think outside the box, I wonder what you'll pick!
People here like to drink, so if your name means "to Toast" more people can probably relate to that!
(it's nothing you are doing, this forum has a long history of people posting silly names or objects like images of "underwear" or "sock". Once people think they are talking to one of their old friends playing a joke, it's hard to let go that association. I made the same mistake thinking two different people were "Wilful" and I kept talking to them as "Wilful" instead of as themselves! so it's not you at all!)
Here are some images that look more feminine, like a real person not a household "object." You remind me of my friend Pam's sense of detachment and humor, but she would have been cussing every other line.

My avatar is normally blank, but here's a "Toast" to you and welcome to SW!

First, you try and encourage him/her to change their username. Now you're encouraging them to get a new avatar. What's up with that shit?
TheToaster's avatar is just fine as it is. I personally don't see any reason for them to change it. Certainly not to suit you, anyway.
Note to Thrill: Since Toaster does NOT have control issues, she did not waste a whole post reacting as you did. Do you see the difference? She can just ignore the suggestions and doesn't have to argue or prove she has ideas of her own.
Why can't you? when the msg wasn't even directed to you?
???
When I first started on here, you seemed fine letting me take responsibility for my own posts and perceptions. All of a sudden you started getting "paranoid" about control issues.
I don't know if it was the "fear of moderation" that got you started on this.
I hope that issue gets resolved, because otherwise you will PROJECT YOUR FEAR on every single message that triggers it.
BTW why are you worried about sections: look at the number of pages of threads, 1, 2, 3...
how is that much different? Except instead of mixing threads together on pages 1, 2, 3, 4, you will know to go to "page 1 or page 2" for messages you want to skim (and SKIP "page 3 or 4" if those are where the BORING serious threads are you don't want to read through).
Also Thrill, did you ever think what happens when the forum grows to 100's more people posting each day? What if those are LONG posts about books and things YOU DON'T READ.
Wouldn't you want all those LONG threads in one section out of the way?
Hope you get over your FEAR OF CHANGE so it doesn't interfere with your enjoying your freedom of speech to keep doing what you're doing.
love you too,
Emily
Emily, you're the one who has fears here. Not me. You fear not having control. It's obvious in many of your posts. I never had an issue with any changes here until you came along and suggested we have sections.
I have no problem with changes at all that don't involve people telling me where I can and can't post. If I hated change, I wouldn't even like these chat features or the new private messaging thing that Luna plans on implementing, but as you can see, I have no problem with those changes at all. The fact that we don't have the freedom to view 'PUBLIC' chat as an anonymous viewer was a bit of an issue at first, but I don't even care about that anymore.
My only issue is with people like you who try to control this place. As you and Luna are going to discover, having sections will be a complete waste of time and that will be on you because it was your stupid idea.
by TurncoatI don't think it's control so much as a desire for order.
Actually it's to resolve issues that don't need to be junking up the forum.
The natural chaos can be more free flowing if you DON'T have to keep re-addressing the same issues over and over that get OLD.
For Example if conflicts between TK and me get resolved, she doesn't have to posts posts in EVERY SINGLE THREAD saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....
Get it?
The more we resolve or drop the "nonissues" the more we can focus energy on real interests that offer more benefit in general.
EX: implying/assuming over and over and over that I am "magically" in charge of the forum is wasting time space and energy every time it comes up. When it's not even true.
Plus, if TK resolves where this issue IS coming from, then it solves a lot of other problems as well. So there is multiple benefit in resolving conflicts instead of repeating them. That's just plain common sense.
