I agree with you (I think) it comes down to perspective. The part about MT is evidence of the evil inherent in religion that has shaped (western) society. Her religious brainwashing overrode her basic humanity.

Agreed.  And then they say that the most "noble" thing to do is sacrifice yourself to God and be his servant.

Totally different conversation.  A saint that caused suffering and was revered for it.

Not just saints.

Our culture(U.S. especially) celebrates the criminal. 

I choose the supervillian because I'd rather break the rules than play by them.

There are some "criminal" acts I would celebrate, some I'm indifferent to, and some I'm opposed to.

yes - same question to you Mask? I was thinking how we honour the corporations and CEOs that destroy our planet and hoard assets they could never use but wondering what you mean by this? 

But the one who breaks the rules is sometimes seen as a hero.

Robin Hood is a old example.  In the end he is stealing, but because he 'takes from the rich and gives to the poor' he is a hero.
