ha ha I like the way you break it down simple.

What about when the fuckers just cry - they're fed, watered, pissed and cleaned and they CRY!!!! How the hell do you help them> this is partially why I never opted for kids - too freaky to be responsible for all that need.

In that situation you have to consider that there may be something else going on, such as a health issue or they could just have belly-ache and need to pass wind (fart or burp).

I always found it more disturbing that I don't respond to someone crying like it's anything to worry over. It's mostly loud, and an obvious clue that something's needed, but I don't really feel anything when confronted with it.

There's always this awkward few seconds where I'm just sort of staring at the person who's crying before I realize I should be responding to it the way people usually do.

I think crying in children and adults, who are capable of communicating verbally, is a sign of weakness. It's also annoying because they expect you to sympathize with them. I feel contempt towards people who cry. It's pathetic.

well, if you are an emotionally detached person that makes perfect sense. i don't lag in response, but i don't always respond "positively" or get moved, it depends on who it is. if i care about the person then i am affected, or if the baby belongs to someone i care about then absolutely, but otherwise i just want it to shut up. i mean, rationally, a baby or someone crying has nothing to do with us, there is no rational reason why we should feel moved or affected, but some of us do nevertheless.

As a person who cries, it's not always a conscious action.  I don't expect sympathy and I often would rather not be observed when I'm crying.  Maybe it is weakness, but it's often a loss of self-control for me.  I also cry out of embarrassment and frustration, since rage and violence (which are my other options) are socially unacceptable.
