Agreed. Black and white brings a more comfortable, easy to understand world, but a more biased, incongruent one at that.
Well, in modern psychology, we realize that there are 2 genders and 2 associated traits on a spectrum. Males have typical male traits and females have typical female traits. But, nowadays it goes deeper, because men can have very feminine traits and females can have very masculine traits. Just because the the traits are normally associated with each gender does not make them set in stone. Instead of forcing women to be feminine and males to be masculine, we can let them have their own personalities, whether it be masculine or feminine. I have similar beliefs about sexual preference. Sexual preference is not set in stone for all males and all females, so why persecute them for being different?
You refer to the sexes as all members of each have the same traits
Whether one is masculine or feminine the only thing that really matters is accepting oneself. But being a man, woman, or member of the LGBT community I can appreciate how difficult it can be to be treated as an equal, instead of being forced to act this or that way. We should all respect our differences and treat each other as equals.
I'm totally comfortable with my own personality, it's all mine and me looooves it! :)
I just have issues with oppressive and chauvinistic cultures and regimes, I'll always speak up for the oppressed party, it's my thing! ;) haaaay!! ;)
At least there is a trend towards less oppression and more toleration in most developed countries. Still some oppression, but we do see many more women in the work force doing "men's" jobs, legalization of gay marriage (which used to be so very taboo and unspeakable), and less public hate, although people may be waddling in their hate privately.
RE: what do you suggest to fix it emily? it seems you have visions of faith-amped robotic zealots running around..perhaps that is what caused this mess
You are right, this "zealot" stage of imposing "exclusive" political/religious beliefs DOES cause these messes. And as Caleb said people will not likely change their systems. This causes collective "projection" -- from not forgiving or resolving past conflicts, and projecting blame on a target group.
We can effect more change by choosing to forgive and correct problems together, not fight to change each other. Collectively, the mob mentality stops. The key is "forgiveness" to forgive the past, break this cycle of denial and projection of external blame.
What "changes" is our perceptions of the other as "not being the enemy." Overcoming fear that otherwise divides and conquers both sides so we all lose.
Forgiveness heals the relationships first, so the corrections can follow and everyone wins.
