I've used proxies 99% of the time even on the old forum, and also TOR, but I think there have been a few posts I didn't use a proxy/TOR for. I'm pretty sure someone said not even the nabble admin had access to IPs, but nevertheless, I wouldn't want whatever is in that data to be scrutinized by God knows who.
The level of security you after, the responsibility falls on you. But in the bigger picture, I am very worried about the NSA, Snowden drops a bombshell every week or so. The proposal now is that many protocols have been so compromised, that there is talk in the private IT sector of re-writing new proprietary protocols. Its a mess. Personally on this forum, I dont get behind a proxy or TOR, I am on holiday, but when I am in places which I feel warrants me being anonymous, then I do.
