I think it makes the most sense that those of fear would seek protection from said fear, I mean that's like half of gun sales already, but at least like this said politicians aren't wielding the gun themselves, getting experiences with it themselves. 

This is like blaming a fashion designer for wearing a bulletproof vest. 

 The whole point is that abolishing firearms would only take away the guns owned by registered responsible gun owners.  But at least you acknowledge that gun sales are predominantly for self defense, which is their main use that also saves hundreds of thousands of lives every year.

 yeah so my point got a little lost there. even if there was a ban, there would still be a need for protection from the people you actually need to worry about, the ones who own firearms illegally or have them unregistered.  and i guarantee politicians would still have armed guards after a ban
