They're shitty wastes of time and get worse every year. The market is only catering to massive multiplayer shooters, the rest of the genres are starving out of existence. The vicious cash grab of near identical sequels, microtransactions and sections of the game being blocked off as "dlc" are atrocious to say the least.
Buy indie shit then, like Untitled Goose Game, or go for the stuff like Super Meat Boy or I Wanna Be the Guy if you want it to be hard, or maybe like Ninja Gaiden for something more 3D.
You also can go back to the days of when games were still "Nintendo Hard". Even the original Megamans were somewhat unforgiving at points.
We have a gigantic library of games and the majority of them are not commercial blockbusters anymore.I don't like indie games or going back to play older games
Why? It's not like they all have shitty tank controls.
Indie games are mainly metroidvanias
By that you mean being the small character on the larger screen exploring maps to find keys that make you backtrack way too fucking much?
Most of them aren't that unless you're only looking into Teraria clones.
and generally dont have the budget to give me the experience im looking for.
They're usually dirt cheap from just having developers wanting to get their names out there. They end up a bit shorter or simpler if it's not full blown passion project works like Bastion, but that also can get you more variety away from DotA clones, MMO mass production, and FPS abuse.
A lot of them are also harder than the mainstream market's games, or otherwise have a mechanic in it where you never really need to stop playing it like randomly generated levels.
Older games I just don't because it's flaws stick out glaringly from how far in the past it was. The few I would replay I've replayed to death
Which flaws in particular, graphics, and if far enough back poor controls for early 3D games?
There's more than enough exceptions if you look through reviews of older stuff, they're dirt cheap typically from being older (or you can just use an emulator), and you need not accept mediocrity when it comes to games if you are willing to focus more on gameplay and less on it looking shiny.
There's also a lot of games that are not mass market appeal that otherwise are quite good that are sold through Steam. Their collection in general is huge now with a lot of room for novelty and familiarity.
