Hello, I have a friend who has something PD-wise or neurodevelopmental going on with them but I really can't pinpoint exactly what it is. Reading up in the DSM I have narrowed it down to narcissistic leaning histrionic personality or high functioning autism (extroverted). Does anyone know some categoric differences between these two? On paper they seem very similar and have a lot of overlap. Very well could be something else. Some examples for context:
1. They make blatant attempts to minimize mistakes or gaslight you into thinking they never made a mistake. (e.g. What? No, that's not what I said)
2. No apologies unless prompted for one.
3. Deflection of criticism to make you comfort them instead of owning up to a critique of character or communication style (e.g. in response to, say, "you never seem interested in what I am interested in while it is the opposite for me", excessive defense of how that cannot possibly be the case or excessive pleading follows instead of aiming to resolve the issue). "Why are you doing this to me", "Can we stop talking about this", yelling and insults in response to criticism.
4. Questions are only asked if the response can somehow trace back to something they can talk about.
5. Extremely negative/hostile emotional reaction and excitement when someone disagrees to a claim. One-upmanship.
6. Jealousy when speaking to other people. Anxious attachment style.
7. Obsessive interest and impressive detailed knowledge of etymology and history.
8. Does not like to take advice.
9. Despises to be alone.
10. Self harm.
11. Attention seeking behavior. Likes to be the center of attention (validation oriented).
I'm open to ideas so I might be able to read more about whatever this is. I like the guy and don't mind jumping around a few hurdles to make things work without utilizing manipulative methods. There are a few that come to mind but I think are unfit because they will lead to more dependence and exacerbation of existing traits.
