Honestly if this is your attitude the best gift I could give you is some dirty sticks, to symbolize the lesson of learning to appreciate people's gifts to you.

I don't celebrate Christmas and my Birthday. I'm happy not looking forward to these days people panic over.

I tell everyone not to get me anything. Every now and then someone will get me something. Still I get them nice things, not for Christmas, but throughout the year.

Last gift I received was a some kind of plaque with a canabalized XBOX controller dismantled on display. I don't particularly like it. Only time I never appreciated anything given to me. Just a silly thing I can't throw away or else I'll insult someone. I keep it stored away.

The gift I felt a bit guilty of throwing away was this custom made lightsaber. It made these sounds when you swung it around and when you opened it, the light crept up slowly. It was pretty neat, though I wasn't the best target audience for it.

However, when I left for another country, I tossed everything I had at home to this pick up truck. It included my medals from sports competitions, family photos, etc. Anything I owned that didn't fit into a single luggage box.

At the end of it, I had t shirts, shorts, one pair of trousers, my legal documents, and my 11 years old IBM Thinkpad laptop that gave electric shocks when I used it.

I still feel guilty over the lightsaber though, it was handcrafted. I hope someone picked it up. When I was a kid, my friend's stepfather worked at rhe garbage yard, and he always picked up these gems that all the kids played around with, that people threw away. One time he found a working Playstation with a few games, we were so excited.

I admire those highly detailed lightsaber replicas with the crystal in the chamber and sound effects. Don't particularly want one but if gifted to me, I'd all of a sudden like it. 

I'd go to Canadian Tire, grab the most transparent fishing line, and practice unleashing the force in the backyard.

Or I'd try to anyway.

 Could've sold it. Check it's value and sell it at a discount and it'll be gone in a minute. But no. You threw it away.

If I were moving to another country I'd prepare for it in advance. Yard sales, online sales, free handouts. But I wouldn't just throw shit away.

Or you could've simply given it back to the person who gifted it. You were moving to another country and traveling light. For all you know they could've shipped it to you by now.

Heh. I'm actually insulted. 

I don't ask for anything in return from anyone. The only thing I'd request is respect, and if I have to request respect, I'll probably not deal with that person in my inner circle. People outside of my inner circle did get things from me before, but not anymore. 

One time she asked Uncle for a tablet. I said why ? You have a laptop. She said, because I'm good at drawing now, uncle I can make 250,000 a month ! I said child. I'm a digital artist too, are you sure you can make that kind of money drawing and colouring digital pictures ? Yes Uncle, please I need it !

Okay, which one do you want ? I let her pick, and we went over the specs, see which one has the best balance for art, if it comes with a stylus etc. Then I had it delivered straight to her home. 

I told her Mother, lol she's not gonna do jack shit with that tablet. She's gonna learn something then quit and here we are 3 years later. While I don't ask about it, I'm glad I'm not to blame for her inability to put effort into it either, and she's wiser. 

I'm neither scrooge nor the grinch by your programming standards. Never liked Christmas when I was broke, and still don't. I'll have some of that nog tho, and will be having seconds if you drag me there. While they're breaking themselves to give everyone gifts every year, they don't have to give me anything, and they love it, and I still give and pitch in the most.
