So you didn't play it fairly then? That's a shame, you missed out on how the game could be fun.

I knew someone who had a glitched ditto. I saw it fighting a Pikachu and it turned into a Voltorb instead, then the link battle crashed.

So you never got into Pokémon Go at all? That’s a shame you missed out on how the game is amazing.

I played it a lot until around 2019, the game was only fun for collecting.

Airports were great hotspots, and hotspots in other countries were a great way to find good restaurants and other good tourist sites. The game sucks, yeah, but it was a useful tool.

Yellow didn’t really have any glitches

Youtube begs to differ, the glitches were simply different.

You also could still trade with your Red/Blue version, so you could for example send over Missingno or even the glitched Kangaskhan that it could evolve into. You could even trade weird shit into Pokemon Stadium.

I always preferred to battle on my red cuz everything was level 100 which seemed standard for everyone I played with.

So you never fought a patient enough opponent to level them up the hard way?

In Crystal I actually raised 6 Pokémon to level 75-100 and felt pretty unbeatable but by then people cared less.

It was more niche by then, but those who did play were serious business.

Since then the games have begun to have online battles. If you check on Youtube there's some people who go pretty nuts with weird tricks and gimmicks.

I’ve seen some shit but honestly the smeargle and shedinja or whatever meta bothers me more than it fascinates me. Stuff like that takes all the fun of the game away for me, I much prefer Pokémon Go’s battling system.

Shedinja gimmick's pretty easy to beat if it's not hacked into a different type mix. It became a common enough Pokemon that people prepared moves for it. Smeargle... is neat. It's potential is nearly limitless, but the stats are garbage.

If you ask me, what takes the fun out of the game is Legendaries. The only way to have it be fun is if you get an above level 100 one, rare candy it past 255, and then raise it from scratch at level 1 when the level rolls over. Even then... it's busted and unoriginal to use them, it's what mundanes do.

We can agree to disagree, I’m totally fine with that. If the legendaries weren’t meant to be used they wouldn’t be in the game. For example Arceus for whatever reason still hasn’t found it’s way into Pokémon go even though they’re coming very close to releasing the 1000th Pokémon in the game.

How are Legendaries less cheap than Shedinja and Smeargle? If they weren't meant to be used, they wouldn't be in the game.

Not saying your wrong, I'd just like your take on it. Shedinja has one HP and Smeargle has garbage stats, it takes someone clever to use them right.

That’s why both are completely useless in Pokémon go. It makes no sense that something with garbage stats should have any viability in a game like Pokémon. Aside from that there are plenty of non legendaries that get used even in the highest league in Pokémon Go despite the fact that their stats aren’t quite up to par with Mewtwo (Ursaluna, Rhyperior, Mamoswine, Dragonite, Gyarados, Garchomp and others are quite common).

Well yeah, Pokemon Go has no nuance.

In the real game, even Slowbro can be powerful.

It makes no sense that something with garbage stats should have any viability in a game like Pokémon.

Yet they do in the real games, rather than the imitation Niantic made. If the game were not so oversimplified they'd have the ability to be good in the hands of someone clever, but in Pokemon Go it's just a bunch of beatsticks. They can't even do Status Effects last I checked. There's no sleep, no stealth rock, no paralysis, it's dumb.

The real game is about being smart, Pokemon Go is about collecting.

Pokémon Go requires a very high level of intelligence to be any good at. The battling system is more based on the Pokémon you choose and less on the moves you choose for them sure, but correct shielding and much less chance outside of the shield mechanic as every move has 100% hit rate. At the highest level everyone has everything they want, it’s not about collecting at all, it’s about switching at the right time, catching moves on the right Pokémon, baiting, shielding correctly, timing and every once in a while a surprise attack can definitely win you some games. I find it to be more a realistic battle than the turn based system regardless.
