Humans are scared of the unknown, so they make up stories about it to make themselves feel better. It's literally that simple

I'm not scared of the unknown, I just like stories.
You are just built different, Xandem.
i think it is a desire to find peace, but ironically it has created the opposite.
so a desire for, peace and feelings or illusions of safety, protection. it is primal need. instinctual. that, for people there is a safety in "sameness" and people who need this "pack" feeling are very afraid,,,,, so it makes sense that, out of intense fear, they cling to uniformity, and scold anything that opposes it because it threatens their, safety, their peace. it's all primal.
fear, and pack mentality. a lot of people i've noticed operate out of a lot of their primal drives whatever they may be....
for some people its just something that, organizes the world and society in a way that suits their own perrogatives, agendas, feelings, thoughts. it's something they can ascribe to that resonates with what they believe is the most true. for some reason some people have an obsession with "correct"ness and "order" and think they know best how everything *should* be. its just something that describes the rules that they personally like?
and then for others, religion is a transcendental experience...
some even get pretty wild with it, and it becomes very fantastical and metaphysical,... i'm not sure why.
as a child i thought it was just stuff to learn about that helped you in the long run be a little wiser, stronger, better for your own good...a way of being that lends humanity to a way of being that is more 'highly evolved'... so you don't shoot yourself in the foot. by acting like a total, stupid ape.
Men created the idea of god because they couldn't stand to think themselves so insignificant nor willingly accept ignorance. Even their self-flagellation stemmed from vanity and pride
The indoctrination of children and the general fear mongering keeps many more minds bound by religious constraints
Good fucking job, velvet
I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not

Definitely sarcastic as what you said is pretty basic and any human adult with 46 chromosomes should be able to come to this conclusion with nothing but logic and common sense
A story that allows you to use it as justification to control the actions of others

I've been told I sound sarcastic even when I'm not.
One that makes you wish it were true, so as to provide it validity in how it tugs on your silly little heart strings
