[Original Post was asking how to give a recommendation for a mediocre to less than satisfactory candidate]

I don't know what you do in this case, but why ask here?? I keep reading this over really are you bragging that you get to be a recommender, why ask here?

Incidentally before my dad went into law he was a young college- or graudate-level Physics Professor and anyone he failed would be drafted (way before I was born). We never talked about it much but I think he wanted to get the heck out of Physics. He had wanted to be a theoreotician and I do believe he was cut for it if he had so chosen.

Anyway just wanted to promote here also I hear a lot from people that "my grades don't matter". I don't know whether that is to them grades don't matter at your age or that they never did. They most certainly do. Usually the only ones belly-aching that no one cares about your grades did not receive the honor of grades such as I did. Period.

What? I think you imagined it.

Sorry, what?

No, this topic is about starving children in Africa. I am particularly interested in those that are chased by lions and are still happy. Did you know that Africans are happier than their western counterparts, despite the lower living standards? How crazy is that.

'Kay. Don't know what this has to do with starving children in Africa, to be very honest. Did he teach in Africa?

Do you think that it would help the starving children if we gave them training in how to complete multiple choice (MC) questions with greater success, including MC strategies. These strategies may help them get recruited to top universities, hence boosting the living standard across Africa.

What are your thoughts?

Okay.

They are paying for their parents sins. You live in a AIDS infested shithole and you're having children without a plan.

Another thing about that, when their children are dangerously malnourished, they are more likely to get aid, which is food or money. Interestingly enough we don't see too many adults starving to death in Africa even if we tried, so it's certainly possible that these people do it to their children on purpose since it increases the likelihood of making gains. People risk their life to escape those places, which isn't a bad idea at all.

It is the result of human error. Not easy to look at, and shouldn't really be ignored.

Do people in the west have children with a plan mostly? Do you think children are a luxury that only western people should enjoy?

What do you think about taking the starving children from Africa and giving them to western and asian families and then sending them back after they grow up and graduate from MIT/Harvard/etc? Do you think it would fix the problem?

Another possibility would be to take the adults and sending them to top universities. Do you think it would make a difference? What do you think will ultimately fix the hunger problems in East Africa?

Do you blame human nature or poverty or both?

Mostly I don't. When I do, I consider them the victims of the faulty system they were born into. Wealthier countries can try to help, but as long as their own government is setting them up for failure there isn't much permanent chance that any outside influence can do.

Sc is pretty boring.

Which starving Africans in particular? Africa is huge.

South Africa is going through major upheavals in the years since Nelson Mandela was released from prison.

Apartheid has been over for awhile and the demographics are reversed.

The country is full of young black professionals driving fancy cars, and revolutionaries taking back their land from their white (descendants of) invaders.

Last I checked, there was a tent city full of homeless blond/e Afrikaans in a public park close to... blah. Can't remember the city...

It would seem that a majority of the people starving in South Africa are white, now.

Here's smthg from Kenya:

Lack of an electrical grid is a common problem around the world, tho it doesn't necessarily have to be so problematic.

I love the hand crank farming equipment from my Edwardian Farm series.

Several of the countries where the people were starving were at war.

Jeez. They were actually eating people in Sierra Leone.

I've been meaning to look up the causes of that war bc I read somewhere in passing that those freed slaves were happy to go back.

Oprah was talking to some of them in the 90s, before the war.

But I can only focus on one war at a time.

I will look up smthg I read about another flare up in Ethiopia.

If it's not the Islamic extremists it's the effing Ruzzians all the time... smh

The Nigerians would do better by their children if they didn't give so much money to these scam artists:

Apparently, the Congolese are fairly affluent.

I had some neighbours about 15 years ago who were quite chubby  :)

They said it was beautiful over there before that war.

I think they may have finished rebuilding by now.

The Tanzanians are poor enough that some would kill children for the money they get for selling their body parts

Is this a shit test or do you actually have anything other than more questions ?

That shit happens in the west too, but not at such scale. When it does happen in the west, it's often because the parents are reckless with money, granted they even get bonuses and handouts for having children in the first place. It's easier to eat in the west.

LOL damn it Legga, Education can't fix that, it has yet to.

While exporting them to the west and giving them to a family would take the edge off, that isn't happening, and if it did, they sure as hell won't be going back after years of free food and education.

Another possibility would be to take the adults and sending them to top universities. Do you think it would make a difference? What do you think will ultimately fix the hunger problems in East Africa?

 Human nature.

When the world turns into Mad Max, it's not a good time to knock up your girl and bring children into your hellhole. It's still going to happen though. They won't even pull out before ejaculating because of lust, ( then we see why lust is a deadly sin.)
