It's aiming to deify starving in a faith that already pushes you to give away your things; a faith that pushes slave morality in ways that become increasingly unhealthy the more devoted the person is. Now I find a passage detailing the value in hiding this behavior from those who'd otherwise become concerned and try to make them eat again, and even giving tips on how to blend in while hungry. 

Jesus fasted for 40 days, a complete fast rather than a partial one, as he's written to have survived on God's strength alone. People who want to be Jesus-like risk taking up horribly life-crippling ideas. 

2)  you have no faith

I have seen stories of monks that took this whole fasting shit to the extreme: 

It also spooks me from having studied the logic of cults: They often feature starving to increase devotion as well.

It has a way of short circuiting the brain in ways that make it more prone to suggestion, which with religious material or cult doctrine can lead to an impressionability that can harden new beliefs after the fact.

They also both try to have people depersonalize, forcing people to let go of their former understanding of identity, and both have reasoning as to why you shouldn't internalize too deeply what outsiders are saying.

oh, for calories basically unrestricted,  I am going to allow for eating whatever I want in however much quantity that I want for one hour and try to avoid eating so much that I become uncomfortably full

So like... 500 calories?

noo like 2000 max  I could eat 2000 in one mealtime easily how do you think I can go from being average weight to obese in a year lol I love food too much  :p

So, what kind of time period for alternation are you going to do?  What are your criteria for going on or off the diet period?

…I already know you mentioned going for two days in a row, and trying for a week.  That’s hardly intermittent if there’s no alternation.  Do you see where I’m going with this?

I suppose the difference is in seeing it as daily versus over a different cycle.
