Admin sucks 2/10, it looks like a website relic from the mid 90s

There's not even any people on there too, and her subsections have a tendency to disappear whenever she feels like it.

She deleted one of the boards i made and a bunch of others

She's deleted tons of them, I think this is her third or fourth startup.

yeah BZ cost 100 dollars a month to keep online. Sometimes I give up on it and take it offline, but then later I have a change of heart and decide to keep trying lol

By comparison this place has remained up fairly consistently.

This place is a lot simpler I think. It does not try to be an infinite number of boards like BZ does. This place does not operate in real time besides the chat. It's just a lot less server intensive.

I mean that's a problem, if people are using your forum but it's not super frequent and you give up and delete their boards, i wouldn't want to be using your stuff either. To have to put up with your whims and wondering when my board will be deleted because you've given up for the week isn't exactly user friendly.

it is hard for me to believe this is a good faith arguement. any boards I deleted I am pretty sure had not received a new post in several months

You think deleting the stuff other people have posted and worked on without their permission because you've given up taken the site down and then got motivation back to put it back up again is gonna... convince them continue using your forum software?

Yeah her Chrischan board was pretty active, but even that went away.

I am thinking of putting more effort into BZ. A big mistake I realized we made was that it cannot be indexed by Google or other search engines since when you look at the source of the pages, none of the content appears. I think if I make the site indexable for search engines, I can begin to get traffic.

Before I do that though, I want to ask you guys who have used the software what your thoughts on it are? I assume the key reason it does not currently get traffic is due to the lack of currently existing traffic. Do you guys have ideas on how to address that? Maybe other marketing ideas? Are there any key things that make you dislike the site?

http://boards.zone

Why http and not https?

I will come if it supports https.

Make Delora a mod. Then she will also come.

Fix the avatars. Last time I was there it was the same problem with avatars before. It would just fail to update.

We take spell check for granted, but you have that on desktop.

Your forum makes it difficult to miss direct responses, and it handles youtube links better.

It's sad seeing the place empty.

I don't understand why you need apache. Isn't apache a http web server? Node.js replaces apache... right?

oh wtf...node isn't what i thought it was, lol. i'm not ready for node yet, but i'll bookmark that repo for when i am

Do not use node.js my friend.

Java Script was not intended for any real logic. At best it should be used for online games. It is intended to do run code that is not compromising on the client machines of the server users, to take the load off of the server. Usually simple stuff.

When people use it for other things, it creates unnecessary resource demands. You know that c++ video games can render some amazing graphics without lag, yet sites online lag, which are 1000x times more simple? It is a shame. I cant run FB without an extension (and even with it, it just prolongs FB tab life) without it crashing lmao and taking up RAM.

node.js is a mistake imo.

Good, I think my brother decided to go with node.js because he did not like AJAX.

Our pages had a ton of real time stuff going on. You could see who was creating a post. You could also see the thread list update in real time, threads move themselves to the top of the page. View counter, list of online users, etc. All that fanciness was enabled with node.js. We initially tried it in PHP and it was too heavy.

you should really make this site real time. Then you can run into all the same pitfalls as we did

There is a dynamic mode option in your profile that enables the dynamic updates of the topics on the main page here. I can make it the same way as it is on BZ, but I like it static more. I could make the dynamic update enabled by default though, I was overzealous to make it select only to reduce load, pretty sure it would be fine.

You can use node.js, I think it's not a good choice, but I do not want to preach it, I was just telling tryp the other side of the argument. C# is really good for websites, it's what is used here. It has libraries and architecture specifically made for websites, it's one of the intents behind the language. It has some downfalls ofc.

depends on your search criteria

if you search by text, which is the most common one id guess, it is slow.

because I do not use one of MSSQL technologies for free text search. I have to optimize the DB somehow, I have not gotten around to learning it.

So its just a slow sql query with LIKE. It is so slow, that I had to put a date limitation, or it will timeout. If I remove the timeout, the DB gets shut down by the host for a script taking too long.

As you know I've always been an active and engaged participant in Luna's dream.

In 2021 I must have contributed over 30 unique boards in support of her laudable endeavour to create a modern cyber society

Only for all of them to be deleted and my user account banned.

Topics ranged from, but were not limited to: Cooking, animals, alternative medicine, biology, and human anatomy

Expect no further engagement from me.
