It's an art, the art of not giving a fuck. Of course, I care, I am not a robot. But I care only about certain things and only to an extend. And if I didn't care, I wouldn't have to stop myself from caring.

Confrontation.... Not being affected by conflict. I could see that being beneficial for those who don't know how to deal with confrontation.. Suffering.... Suffering can be good for you. To dull it... I imagine that being a slippery slope. But I haven't read the book.
