Sometimes learning something can weaken, damage, or otherwise scar someone, even if that knowledge reveals something they otherwise may have needed to know. It can also lead to a reduction in overall confidence from an increased awareness of why that confidence might not make sense.
While I'm not one to promote keeping the truth from people, often by learning such things we lose something else in exchange, like the ability to watch something with the same innocence we had prior.
