Would it devastate me if it were determined that god and satan are not real?

lol absolutely not.

I discovered religion when I was about 10, when the church ladies came recruiting in my ghetto, looking for downtrodden little girls to save.

I mentally shredded their scapegoat concepts on my own, a few months before my twelfth birthday.

I never really believed in a 'devil' anyway, but I put in the time to shred the logic down between age 11 and 12, and I am certain that a place like 'hell' couldn't serve its intended function for very long.

I assume that without a physical body or nerve endings, any 'torture' a captor could come up with would be a lot like internet trolling. Mildly annoying at worst and barely noticeable as smthg that was meant to be insulting at best.

So I've always intuited that their 'devil' is just one of those imaginary punishments that ppl tryta lord in front of ppl they mean to exploit, a means of coercing ppl's best behaviour out of them. I always thought that was lame af. Like, if you need to convince somebody to do smthg, teach them about awesomeness, not punishment. Actual punishment only stirs up resentment. And threats of some imaginary punishment that can't stick to a person bc s/he is a ghost? Didn't Monty Python mock that approach at some point?  :P

This is why I prefer Buddhist Hell, you burn on the pain of your own sins mostly over your attachment to them, then when the sin is gone the pain stops and they're rendered a purified ash that new soul-life may spring from.

It's more like a really painful timeout until they learn their lessons, since their religion's idea of freedom is to escape 'Samsara', or existence, to finally die and achieve Nirvana so that their state of suffering through life may pass.

They do go at length though over the suffering and all that, but they don't really go on about longevity factors other than calling it eternal.

The means of Hell's suffering likely converts people into more blatantly demonic forms, having their eternal suffering become more normalized overtime as they'd likely become the enforcers of Hell itself. How else would Satan have any hope of having soldiers come The Rapture, rather than a bunch of people who were eternally suffering thanks to some dude suddenly becoming who they're fighting for.

After enough pain they're bound to adapt.

I'd given it a try a few times after debating with quite a few people, but each time spent reading up on the material more so put me off the idea of ever following someone/something like that.

I just can't stop having the 'love' as they'd call it extend towards those God's turned His back on, which is the vast majority of humanity if the texts are to be believed. I see tons of victims in their stories that they seem to have no problem shitting on as if they deserved it, such as Job's wife being cast down for trying to help Job see reason.

It takes more than reading the bible to know God. Reading someone's biography is different from talking to them.

You say "God turned his back on them", but I would say they turned their back on God. He is the king of the land and they are rebels to the kingdom. Before destroying the rebellion He gives these rebels a chance to repent and receive mercy.

If it was revealed that God and Satan aren't real, would that devastate you or would you still be the same?

I'd be significantly more motivated and full of chutzpah to do something about this situation if I could no longer deny their existence, but Christianity reeks too much of it's human needs from history for me to handle it as anything but 'convenient' for those utilizing it as a means of control.

Religions that show deities as capable of making mistakes or being selfish without sugarcoating it, ones based on Earthly values and balance without dissociation from the here-and-now, seem much more plausible and realistic to me by comparison, but considering the country I live in I'm more often then not stuck dealing with either Christians or people who are one generation away from one with a chip on their shoulders over it.

I tend to handle it as lore no differently than I might read from Dungeons and Dragons, it's fun to perspective take and look at the ramifications of it if it were to be real but I don't otherwise believe in it come the end of the day in spite of the room to debate as if it were.

Honestly if there is no God I would recommend suicidal people die to leave this world of suffering~

Life is too hard to not have a reward smh...

Time and time again I say it's wiser to be agnostic than atheist.

More often than not the agnostic has studied none of the material, while at least the atheist has often read enough of their cultural theisms to try to critique them.

Maybe in your limited, anecdotal experience lol. That's a wildly unprovable claim more broadly, isn't it? Maybe that reminds you of something.

It takes having a strong position rather than a wishy-washy one if one's to really care, one way or the other.

This I do agree with, but why care?

I suspect it's not much of a choice whether you do or don't.

Raised catholic but didn't really attend church except on ash Wednesday and the 40 days of lent.

Got to experience a cult like religion that probably worsened my hallucinations and paranoia

So I don't really believe in God and i definitely don't believe in those that claimed to know what it wants.

I mean, you have to believe in order for him to exist
