So you'd rather tout your asceticism?
Is it asceticism?

What would you call it?
The writing indeed isn't directed at anyone particular here. It's a simple diatribe that rallies against some of the vectors of consumerist culture and the vapid elements of the "cultured" type. The main focus wasn't as much a desire to communicate a distaste as it was to produce an invective, because I find that style of writing both funny and generally more interesting.
That being said, the "cultured and worldly" type is indeed a boring one that flaunts the patina of high taste, immersion in the foreign, and esoteric knowledge as a symbol of status or elevated awareness. They're like the "intellectuals" who name drop Sartre or Hegel to direct your attention to the ivory tower.
You seem a lot brainier than usual. Sounds like you read a lot. You sound a little like those ivory tower advocates you’re commenting on.
I think in a very similar way, but without the judgement.
It's helpful to me to think of some people as "awakened" and most people as not. Here, on this forum, I think there have been two awakened people besides myself -- AliceInWonderland and Jim. While I respect SpatialMind in many ways, I am not convinced he's awakened in the sense that I use the word (some people use it differently).
By awakening I mean a profound realization/conviction that rules don't exist. Profound in the sense that it's demonstrated by actions and not just philosophizing or theorizing.
I think of Tryptamine as someone who could potentially go through awakening, but who likely won't. I think of Inquirer as someone who doesn't desire an awakening.

You obviously don’t know me. My entire life is about breaking rules without getting caught. I like to dwell in the gray areas so I don’t go to jail, but other than that, I’m all about the absence of rules. I mean... I went to visit Jim when everyone said it was not smart and even the TSA and other government people told me not to go. But I went and I survived and I got a cute little baby from it. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world. No STDs :)
Erm... I think Tryp might be meme-ing again
Googling sections of his post doesn't reveal itself to be copypasta, unlike some past OPs.
Does a snide little commentary on some Ikea coffee table follow this monologue?
Lol a Fight Club reference?
Tryp can't take a punch, let alone be hardcore enough for Project Mayhem.
