"I'm just telling the truth"

What has you (anyone) so sure that what you're seeing is the reality?

Repeated results, tested over and over, leading to confidence in my abilities.
It is not just about being sure its the truth. It about risking saying it is.

Cheery bye!

This perspective is a lot more humble and respectable than most on the notion of truth. You don't even deny that it's over consistency and practicality, and that if it were wrong you were taking a risk in saying that it was true.

Saying it's "a risk" means there's healthy levels of doubt, and that already puts your position in a much more mature seat.

I'm not concerned with the "truth". I act according to what I perceive. There is no other way really, out of all possibilities of what reality is, the one you perceive is the most probable. And even if that reality is not objective, it's the only one you can work with regarding actions you take and reactions you observe. If this interaction between yourself and the world leads you to believe some things that your senses provide you with are simply misleading, just adjust your actions accordingly.

People preface things with "I am just telling the truth" to remove any notion of them being emotionally invested in whatever it is they're about to say

I figured it was to avoid the need for further research and/or logical investment as well.

It's a justification for a justification: "I'm telling the truth/It's common sense" as a cover up for "Why waste my time" as a cover up for why they don't really want to deal with differing ideas.

But yes, how can anyone be so sure that their version must be right? If we all think this and there's this much variation within it, doesn't that sort of negate the myth?

Have you ever looked into Solipsism

Solipsism is the philosophical idea that only one's own mind is sure to exist. As an epistemological position, solipsism holds that knowledge of anything outside one's own mind is unsure; the external world and other minds cannot be known and might not exist outside the mind. As a metaphysical position, solipsism goes further to the conclusion that the world and other minds do not exist. This extreme position is claimed to be irrefutable, as the solipsist believes himself to be the only true authority, all others being creations of their own mind.

If this interaction between yourself and the world leads you to believe some things that your senses provide you with are simply misleading, just adjust your actions accordingly.

How is something ever "simply" misleading? There's no way to tell if earlier you or current you has a greater understanding of things or not, as you're stuck within the mind and perspective of "current you".

What I meant by that is that if your view of what should happen is different from what you're experiencing, you have a choice of either believing your senses or believing the world aligns to your conceptions and your senses are misleading you. You would have to adjust your actions if you are to believe your senses are misleading you.

For example, if I put my hand over an open flame and it does not burn me, it's either that my tactile sense is fucked up, or the flame is not actually hot. I have to decide which one of those is true.

Nature and a healthy brain has us be convinced of our reality. When you start doubting everything you consider true or real, you become an unbalanced mess and a failure in life. Natural selection ensured that the ones who do not suffer from this get to be successful specimens.

I just want other people to read this shit and be confused whether it's part of the post or not.

Is being convinced a sign of knowing the truth, or being comfortable within our personal truths?

People who don't practice enough doubt can also be misled.

Case in point: How you and Spatial see each other.
