Looks like classic Soviet Bloc. Which I actually find charming.

Oh look it's honolulu city........

The labrat devours the scientist, if given the chance. As the rat is nothing but a tool to the scientist, the rat may still consume his dead flesh.

 You would.

That's what happens when a boy grows up in Cleveland lol

No offense, Dima, but Salekhard looks cold and depressing and... yeah. Soviet era gloomy and full of that song about the Volga boatmen  :(

I want to check out St Petersburg.

It's on my lottery list  :)

Not because of where I grew up. I just like the uniformity of things.

Cleveland was cold and grey and ugly when I was there, too.

I like pretty things. Art deco buildings and museums and vibrant culture.

And food.

My mom grew up in the way far north, up in Cree country.

Maybe Dima has more food choices bc he's in a mining town, and the gvt drops shipments there for the workers... or maybe not.

But my mom said that living in a remote area north of 60 meant no fresh crops, meat or milk.

They got a helicopter drop at regular intervals. Can't remember if it was monthly... I think it may have been more like once every 3 months.

Everything was canned and oversalted.

That's probably why most of the long term residents get so fat.

No way could I live at the north pole. I like my creature comforts too much.

And sunshine. I shrivel up and get all morose and annoying without a bit of sunshine on my face at least 5 days out of each week.

Yeah, I like the cold but not the supercold. BC looked nice, it has very temperate weather from what I've seen.

BC is a stunning place full of unearthly beauty.

I thought I was prepared bc I'd seen all the tourist brochures and all the tv ads.

But I was truly swept away by how beautiful it was when I was there for real.

The air smelled SOOO good. And the fish were SOOO delicious.

I felt so tiny. Yet so connected to smthg bigger and better than myself.

I discovered goddess spirituality that year.

Because... just wow.

Toronto narc greed and stupid homeless asshole politics and the dumb shit people do to each other for money or just bc they're pissy... it all just melted away into the insignificant hole from whence it came after I got a look at the raw natural beauty of BC.

I felt like I could see forever in those rock formations  <3

I have no idea what it means to be offended by someone. :) don't even try to be tactful to me. I have never appreciated that in people. :)

Yes. life in the harsh conditions of the Arctic Circle is very depressing, but we have a lot of oil and natural gas and we live much better than other regions of russia. love, emotional empathy, family values, friendship are available to people, even if they live in the Arctic circle. :) this compensates for our lack of sun. :) Our indigenous peoples Nenets, who live in their traditional way of life and graze their herds of reindeer in the Yamal tundra, love their land. :)

I became an omega male again. :) my ex-wife decided to end our relationship and she forbade her daughter to call me ... I no longer have a reason to stay in Salekhard. I decided to leave Salekhard. this year I will go to sunny Crimea. I will seek my happiness there. :)

I was in St. Petersburg. in 2005. then this city was much poorer and very depressed. people received scanty salaries. the city was ruled by criminal gangs. even now, there are many respected crime bosses in this city who have become "businessmen" and have acquired connections with politicians and officials. :)
