Here in the States your credit gets fucked and as a result you can't buy and rent houses unless they are in bad areas.

I've actually considered this as a sort of opportunity.
Ignore the debt and hold on to the cash and take the hit but let time make it negligible.
The phone company called me cause I was behind a payment, and I told them I was having trouble paying that, and my rent, and they waved the charge. They can afford to do that, and they will make more money from me this way.
