I do not believe this country has an issue with suicide, maybe if our percentages start looking like Japan's, Russia's or South Korea's I'd be concerned
"The problem is that it exists at all!"
All the trigger warning culture and the like had me thinking that suicide rates were on the rise in more epidemic ways (wasn't a problem for me, but it was a belief at all), but looking at actual stats has me really wondering now. The US for some reason was not applied to this scoreboard, but if this wiki article is to be believed we're tied with Mongolia for #39 (34th place if you lump together shared scores as shared placements).
Yeah. I feel like there are a lot of factors that go into suicide rates that are associated with 1st world prospering nations. Even scanning those charts you'll find most 1st world countries in the top 25ish, while the bottom is mostly developing nations.
If I had to take a guess, I'd chalk this mostly up to an absence of traditional pressure but I am not sure. Suicide is pretty taboo the farther you go back with exceptions like Japan. I would also say that the less developed the country is culturally, the closer together family tends to be. Ironically, these stats to me are a good sign saying, we have the luxury of being more disconnected if we want.
I am with you, even unto the end of the age
