Why isn't financial literacy being taught in schools, when it's one of the most important skills a person could have?

The companies that prey on said confusion would stand to lose money.

Maybe if you had a decent Healthcare system and didn't treat the mentally ill like some third world shithole then you'd have less suicides, just maybe

Looks like Belgium has a higher suicide rate than the US. Gottcha :D

 Yes we have legalised euthanasia

It also legal in the US to commit suicide. Believe me they won't put you in jail for it. :D

You see though, you only get away with murder if you aren't alive to face the consequences.

Attempted suicide can have you put away for a long time... just not specifically jail

Suicide has become so rampant it's reversed life expectancy rates in the US for the past 3 years.

In 2015, a PNSA study indicated that middle-aged, white Americans were dying at a greater rate than ever before. Even as mortality rates declined in almost every major developed nation (with the exception of Russia), they rose steadily for the U.S., thanks to the uptick in suicides. American suicides are now at their highest point in 50 years - since the end of WW2.

In my health care classes we are taught that the lowering life expectancies are because of a spike in obesity and health related deaths. Not sure if thats the reality, but thats the statistics from what deaths doctors are declaring

You'd probably find this Vice video about the fast food epidemic in Kuwait interesting.

I considered that, but I don't see a clear angle for McGraw-Hill or Pearson? And would the Department of Education really be that malicious? The pessimist in me says "the DoJ has been corrupt, the DoE can be too." Even so, the prospect of elected officials intentionally keeping kids dumb feels a bit extreme.

"Even so, the prospect of elected officials intentionally keeping kids dumb feels a bit extreme." they're not smart enough to pull that off, they can't even wrestle power from the military establishment

It does seem like a decent portion of politicians are well-intentioned dinosaurs. For example, some senators and representatives were asking Zuckerburg questions such as these when he was before congress:

"Is Twitter the same as what you do?"

"How do you sustain a business model in which users don't pay for your service?"

"Would you bring some fiber, because we don't have connectivity?"

Still, any evidence that the Department of Education is even being lobbied to keep curriculum narrow would be huge.

It's quite sad to see so many young people take their own lives. We must do something against it. A pro-life movement if you will. "FUCK A BITCH, DON'T KILL YOURSELF". that's a good motto.

Need a link. The number could be scaling in correlation with population increase, listing it as a leading cause of death is actually the sign of a country in luxury. Where few things actually do kill our people asides eating too much food because of the abundance of it//low cost or deciding to take your own life.

I do not believe this country has an issue with suicide, maybe if our percentages start looking like Japan's, Russia's or South Korea's I'd be concerned

Young people get a misleading sympathetic stigma, most people that kill themselves are usually between 40-60 years old by quite a large margin
