i don't know what the chances of a civil war are, americans are generally prone to sensationalism so any talk of a potential civil war must be taken with a grain of salt

As is we've entered a time where people feel more threatened directly than before by their fellow man and otherwise have grown tired of listening to the opposition. While I agree conservatives likely won't think they're starting said civil war, the Religious Right's been a sleeping giant for decades now that's blossoming into a reactionary beast. They don't have to start it, they merely have to be primed to think the enemy did and that talking is no longer an option. The rich these days also likely have enough money to give the splitting of our country more potential to survive the rift.
The US splitting into two separately governed countries isn't an impossibility within our lifetimes. I'd argue we're at the social precursor of a potential one, a social civil war with the room to escalate from a combination of hype through insulation and a cultivated social environment of fear and unrest waiting for the right event to incite something. We have fear and a lack of communication going on, literally living in two different worlds from each other. The inability to relate to the other's side could lead to a schism rather than leftists fleeing the country when things go 'Right'.
While I lean towards thinking this is just a bunch of people playing "soldier" through the lens of vigilante homeland security, mere LARPing that will peter out as the social climate shifts, people are getting increasingly reactionary as both sides "bravely" insist towards the other that they "aren't a victim anymore".
The Right as is is becoming increasingly untrusting of their government, even of the Right Wing itself when they become disillusioned (usually with Z.O.G. rhetoric these days it'd seem). Both sides have Deep State conspiracies, but they're growing instead of stabilizing.
