after the 8 minute knee lock on that dudes neck. i would suggest the cops get some additioanal training on how not to kill people after they take them into custody.

This won't fix anything, especially if it appears to be being done over a single person's mistake (especially one this flagrantly obvious to the public eye). Have you ever had to do push ups as a result of someone else's fuck up? It just trains you to resent the one who fucked up.

As was said earlier, we need more body cams. When even The News is on the take, that and cellphones have proven to be the only ways that the cops can be held accountable.

why do you think this wont work. uuum also the lengthy prison term the cops about to get might be a deterent also????

de-funding the police sure is not the correct answer. thats some kind of childish response, from ignorant emotional people that have no idea how much the police budget is and what they spend the money on. its just weird and emotional autistic skreeching

more body cams sounds like a good idea

i still dont see how more training about how not to kill people once they are in custody makes you resentful.

it could be as easy as the cops that did the arresting is immediately replaced with some cop less emotional

It's of the same mindset of "Teaching Men Not To Rape", it's an absurd premise from it being based around the assumption that Men by default would, and blaming them as a whole for the mistakes of a few.

Instead of direct 1-to-1 addressing the issue like punishing children, the system itself should be readdressed for allowing it to even get to this point.

im thinking the coronavirus contributed to the building up, people are letting off steam

Absolutely. It also has a lot to do with economics. People are pent up because the economy being shut down and livelihoods being in limbo already has people tuned up.

you know, we've all had run ins with total dick cops. but they do serve a purpose in society. instead of reducing cop funding like the dumb ass democrats, how about we get them some psychological training so they don't get triggered and start shooting/choking when someone insults their mom.

This isn't necessarily a Democrat issue. Look at what happened to the mayor of Minneapolis when he showed up to a protest. When BLM put him on the spot, he said he would not cut police funding (why would anyone? That's fucking retarded). Anyways, this is what happened to him:

no doubt, if cops break the law they should be prosecuted and yes background checks
I think one of the major issues the US has is that we don't spend nearly enough time training police or vetting them. I know that in countries like Sweden, the amount of work put into police training makes it look like their cops go to cop college, while ours go to cop Kindergarten. We have a bad program.

again I see the victims getting killed were majority white. and then the excuses start. "OH the armed ones, OH the disproportionate numbers, OH this OH that"

more white people are getting killed by cops, this is fact. the media is again biasing a narrative to spin and cause chaos. its pathetic when you got to feel special due to some media biased lie. it makes them look like the ignorant sheeple they really are.

people need to start looking at the facts and thinking for themselves. NOT letting CNN think for you.

BTW, just for info, in LA, 43% of the cops are hispanic, 35% are white, 12% are black and 10% are asian. this is in line with the typical general population in LA.

I've looked, things are similar in other cities, the demographic of the cops are typically in line with the general population.

It's not so much that the person died; it's how and why it happened.

"Surely you've seen this video right? "

i watched this video very closely. heres my take.

those cops look like they are pushing a line. pushing people out of the area.

this guy comes up to them talking. they are used to pushing able bodied young people.

the old guy gets pushed and totally falls back smashing his head.

it did not look like malicious police brutality to me. more of an accident

the police were pushing no doubt

police brutality would have been if the cop continued to beat the fuck out of the guy after pushing him down

He walked up with a helmet trying to return it to them...

i think the police need more funding for proper personnel vetting and more psychological training.

Wouldn't this just make for more clever racists?

It would probably at least weed out the destructive ones.

I'd like to point out that you had already taken sides before that last post and possibly before my own posts.

i had no side about the police brutality. but i do now. i think the police need more funding for proper personnel vetting and more psychological training. i see New York/Minneapolis are threatening reducing funding. i think this is a mistake and the wrong direction. im going to look for a little more data about the police to back up my opinion. if i find different facts my opinion can change.

reduce funding to the police to punish them, they get pissed don't work, crime increases, good people leave, place becomes more of a shit hole, more people leave. spirals into destruction. you kinda need the cops like the fire department.

i did have a side on the black businesses racism signs. did they think the black business signs were going to push the rioting towards other races? is this some kind of targeted racial rioting?

You know that their union can often make their officers just *not* work as much right? 2015 police slowdown in NY is proof that the police union can throw it's tantrum whenever it wants. I think there should be a reduction in police funding so that it can go to mental health programs but I also want body cams on at all times of the shift. There's so many people that have retired from police force and gone one to say how fucked up it is and how it needs to change. You can find multiple videos of them on ted talk/YouTube.

I can't answer what those business owners were thinking but I agree with what peach said.

im not a fan of unions. unions tend to overprotect low performers. although the unions do provide a balance between pure capitalism abuse.

reduce funding huh? do you know the police budget and what they spend the money on? maybe there is an area they can reduce. but after the 8 minute knee lock on that dudes neck. i would suggest the cops get some additioanal training on how not to kill people after they take them into custody.

LAPD had a budget of 1.186 to 1.189 billion and will be cut by 100 to 150 million

NYPD had a budget of 6 billion and will be cut by 1 billion over four years

Here's an older info graphic from 2017

The problem is that training so far has been about getting them to be alright with killing people, it's called warrior training. And even though most cities have said that they will not pay for them to take that training because it's so extreme, plenty of officers still take it in their free time.

Body cams are very necessary, and maybe taking away qualified immunity would force them to be more wary of abusing their power.
