2nd that.
Again, pardon me for only quoting the bare bones. I've developed a habit of quickly typing a few sentences and then letting the trolls wear themselves out before I post the meat of any issue worth discussing.
Hume's 4 O's argument was one of my favourites. The original was far more eloquent than my crappy copy and paste job :& I fear I've done the man and his work a disservice.
I'll be back later with a proper copy of Hume's argument, and possibly Sartre's version if I can find a decent translation in the next day or so.
ttfn :)

I remember reading that scientists either recreated or had a huge jump into recreating the primordial soup from where life came from. I do not remember exactly. But its out there.
The more hostile the environment the better, the higher the chances to create the necessary components for life. And the planet was extremely hostile back then.
Now you do know that the observable universe is estimated to be around 0.000000000....1%(forgot exact number of zeros) of the entire universe and even in here we have more then quadrillions of solar systems, each with multiple planets. And mathematically, random life like ours is very likely to happen somewhere. Even more then once.
Ummm...
"Elementary statistical theory shows that the probability of 200 successive mutations being successful is then (½)200, or one chance out of 1060. The number 1060, if written out, would be "one" followed by sixty "zeros." In other words, the chance that a 200-component organism could be formed by mutation and natural selection is less than one chance out of a trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion! Lest anyone think that a 200-part system is unreasonably complex, it should be noted that even a one-celled plant or animal may have millions of molecular "parts."
The evolutionist might react by saying that even though any one such mutating organism might not be successful, surely some around the world would be, especially in the 10 billion years (or 1018 seconds) of assumed earth history. Therefore, let us imagine that every one of the earth's 1014 square feet of surface harbors a billion (i.e., 109) mutating systems and that each mutation requires one-half second (actually it would take far more time than this). Each system can thus go through its 200 mutations in 100 seconds and then, if it is unsuccessful, start over for a new try. In 1018 seconds, there can, therefore, be 1018/102, or 1016, trials by each mutating system. Multiplying all these numbers together, there would be a total possible number of attempts to develop a 200-component system equal to 1014 (109) (1016), or 1039 attempts. Since the probability against the success of any one of them is 1060, it is obvious that the probability that just one of these 1039 attempts might be successful is only one out of 1060/1039, or 1021.
All this means that the chance that any kind of a 200-component integrated functioning organism could be developed by mutation and natural selection just once, anywhere in the world, in all the assumed expanse of geologic time, is less than one chance out of a billion trillion."
Let me smack that last part down again...
"All this means that the chance that any kind of a 200-component integrated functioning organism could be developed by mutation and natural selection just once, anywhere in the world, in all the assumed expanse of geologic time, is less than one chance out of a billion trillion."
And you said...
"And mathematically, random life like ours is very likely to happen somewhere. Even more then once."
Very certain this just a presumption you had... one more time...
"less than one chance out of a billion trillion."
How many galaxies again...
"According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe. They've counted the galaxies in a particular region, and multiplied this up to estimate the number for the whole universe."
OK... how many solar systems possibly... because that is way to varied a variable... but best guess...
That ain't a billion trillion... we haven't even come close to supposing lightening is ready to strike again...

You are so full of shite...
Living in fear of the Unknown is perhaps the genesis of God...or not....but does it matter when our lifespans are too short to ever know the answer?
I think not.
......wonder what a bottle of red wine a billion years from now would taste like....
I have no problem with Water walkers...however they choose to worship...

Fear plays a part... but I think an appreciation is more accurate... appreciation you are even here... to enjoy... a peanut butter sandwich... a sunrise... an intimate night... a bottle of Merlot...

like piss probably... lol... that's old!

Yes...had this talk couple weeks ago...Nuclear physicist friend of mine....and concluded... People are afraid to experience/feel their own existence.
We make for such a great team...
The potential is nefarious....question of which side of the equation though...lol....but would be fun... ;)

This whole thread has been a philosophical defense through a finite theology of the crap shit I do sometimes... lol... who cares which side?
