Scratch that. Read "The Emperor's Children" by Claire Messud about a group of twenty-thirty somethings living in New York City.

Here this is from Amazon about the book:

"Marina Thwaite, Danielle Minkoff and Julian Clarke were buddies at Brown, certain that they would soon do something important in the world. But as all near 30, Danielle is struggling as a TV documentary maker, and Julius is barely surviving financially as a freelance critic. Marina, the startlingly beautiful daughter of celebrated social activist, journalist and hob-nobber Murray Thwaite, is living with her parents on the Upper West Side, unable to finish her book"titled The Emperor's Children Have No Clothes (on how changing fashions in children's clothes mirror changes in society). Two arrivals upset the group stasis----"

Right now I'm reading Madonna in a Fur Coat. It's a Turkish book just recently translated into English. V well written, but I can't help but have anything but contempt for the main character.

I'm currently reading Un borghese piccolo piccolo.

The English translation is called "A Very Normal Man". It's quite surreal and dark. Highly recommended.

I couldn't get through that one. I tried and tried bc I loved the movie.

sigh

Sometimes the geekier SF authors just translate that way on the page when some brilliant film maker does an epic job of their work.

Aasimov is one whose writing made me cringe, even tho his fans adored him enough to make spectacular films in his honour.

Heinlein, on the other hand, is just geeky enough. Not too much, not too little :)

Early Barker, esp The Hellbound Heart, Cabal and The Books of Blood.

The Book of Dave by Will Self.

Asimov, Iain Banks/Iain M. Banks, Kurt Vonnegut.

Thomas Covenant Chronicles.

Dragonlance Saga...

LOTR, Harry Turtledove.

Me like Books.

And last, but no means least H.P Lovecraft, August Derleth, Frank Belknapp Long, Clark Ashton Smith...any mythos stuff.
