I wonder if there's a correlation between the maligned "synaptic pruning" and the over-active pattern-forming that can emerge. If certain synapses are pruned, is there some sort of counteraction which begins linking new connections?
I also wonder that this might be behind that feeling where old things or other elements often taken for granted are suddenly given new meaning or significance. The "Now" seems brand new and open to redesign, in a way. It's that eerie feeling I get when there's a sort of lull in activities or whenever I take the opportunity to absorb the moment more.
