What is a friend to you? 

Someone who I know very well. Someone who knows me very well. Someone with whom I have common values and perspectives on things. Someone who has qualities that I respect and admire and flaws that I can accept and handle. Someone who appreciates my good parts and considers they are worth dealing with my ugly ones. Someone with whom I have bonded through various experiences tightly enough to trust them with my life if case be. Someone to whom I can reach out for help knowing they won't hold back, someone who I can open up to without having an uneasy feeling telling me it's a mistake. Someone who trusts me and is assured of the same support back. Someone who genuinely wants my well-being and happiness, and I the same for them. Someone I enjoy spending time with, knowing the feelings are mutual.

Those are the first things that come to mind, but it's not like anyone can encompass all the aspects of friendship.

It has nothing to do with intelligence. A request like that coming from me would have been of extremely bad taste, imo.

She's free to ask for whatever she wants. I know you think differently of me, but I am not controlling her or interfering with her wishes.

I agree, but I also think you wouldn't have thought of it.

If you think the request is in bad taste, you could always ask Nini to redact it, as you two seem to be on good terms. Unless it's more a matter of who requests it, than the request itself.
