So according to oxford dictionaries

Dox is defined as; 

"Search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the Internet, typically with malicious intent"

We have one rule about doxxing on SC and that is- 

if you're doxxed, you contact the mod to have them taken down, you admit its your dox and it's taken down. You say hey mod-san that's my info out there and I'd rather it not be floating on SC. Mod-san will take it down(usually).

Great! so that's if its posted on the forum, not chat.

Okay so what happens when your dox isn't posted as a topic? Say someone posts it in chat- do these rules for doxing still apply? 

Should the user doxing in chat be banned or muted? Should any action be taken against this user?

What exactly qualifies as a dox?  If Someone spams the forum or chat with:  Anyplaiys City, CA 45276, is that a dox?

If someone's initials and/or phone number is posted, does that qualify as a dox? What about a single picture? Who decides what is and what isn't a dox- mod or doxxee?

why haven't you applied for modeling yet? modeling is not limited to runway fashion shows.. there is hair, skin, hands, eyes commercials for different products or vehicle mag models or gaming mag models

We hadn't had much issue with chat doxes prior, so I'd been handling it with the "Timeout" function from it being the closest thing there is mod tool-wise to removing lines from chat.

We can discuss other ways of handling it however, since this is likely to become more of a thing now that it's being focused on.

Since this decision isn't being made admin-side, it'll need to be decided on ourselves. Yay or nay, this is where to discuss it and gather tallies.

Timeouts were a simple enough solution considering the limited functionality and the lack of volume for the time being before anyway. People are able to click the text to see what was behind it anyway, so the only way to really clear it at the moment is to have 100 lines of chat follow it.

Until something is decided, I'm sticking with timeouts if it's doxes on people who requested their info be taken off of the site. The point of it not being something that can be found over Google is a valid one that makes this worth discussing, so that response is simply a placeholder while we stumble upon a conclusion.

I think that last part is what's important, that a dox doesn't end up in Google.

Questioning because when a dox appears on chat, other users(not doxxer) will repost in chat because they want to know who it is or they repost in chat because they know who it is and you know- shits and giggles/serious mysterious.

So I mean I understand the  doxxer gets a 'timeout', but the other users(regulars??) that repost in hopes of getting an answer/out of curiousity, do they get muted too? 

How much say does the doxxee have in what gets taken down, exactly?

So, if I'm not mistaken, it's currently five votes for allowing it in chat (myself, crow, inquirer, alena, cute kitten) and zero against it.

For now I'm going to change it to allowing it in chat. If you have any objections, this is the time and place to voice it.
