Take it from me when I say it's disastrous and it's the reason I face mental problems it caused to this day. I was like that, when things weren't enjoyable I hid underneath the blanket of delusion. I was happy for awhile and felt untouchable, but you can't stay there forever. It simply isn't possible when your actions dont reflect those of what you've come to believe. It gets to the point of something simple not fitting up to what you believe to make you challenge everything you know and then it was a matter of re-rooting the foundation of your mentality to make things stable again. Very Traumatic depending on the severity of the delusion and the repetition of that practice.
The experience of something not fitting up to what you believe or what should happen in my delusional state made my challenge myself incessantly after I got rid of it. Instead of thinking I was better I set out to prove and practice until I got what I aspired to get. I can tell you now its 10x better to actually know you can/have/will complete and achieve what you wanted than drowning yourself in delusion.
Its really shaped my life much more than any other factor, even eclipses stalking(it's the main contributor to that habit). But yes, testing myself and validating Im not delusion has become a mental need. Being a bit narcissistic doesnt help either, just means more severe tests. I was different before all of that and now my idea of fun is to go into remote/abandoned areas with little supplies to see how long I'd survive. Throwing myself in near death scenarios to prove my limits, I guess the interesting part in all of this, is that I was already stronger than that imagined version of myself.
But, Best you avoid that mentality.
