Watching and listening have been going on for a very long time.
What you have to ask yourself is......" Do those who do the watching and listening have better things to do that watch and listen to you?

Interception of electronic communications traffic has been going on since WWI.
If you are that paranoid stay off grid. Avoid internet, phones, credit cards , and CCTV. Could mention a few others but i'm enjoying observing the paranoia.
BTW, there are cameras in satellites that can tell which paper you're reading.
