The world has collapsed for what ever reason. Humans you know. You've survived on your own for quite a while. Because you're awesome. But you've come to the conclusion, oh yes you have, that it would be more beneficial for you to join a group of survivors like yourself. What would you contribute with and what role would you have in that group? How would you convince them that they need you? What knowledge would you bring to the community?
I'd contribute with many guns, ammunition, and food. My role would be leader of keeping anyone but my allies the fuck away from my food and guns. I'd convince them by letting my stockpile of guns and food speak for itself, and the knowledge I would bring to the table would be better than whatever they got since they don't have as many guns and food as I do.
I don't really have any specialties in this sort of situation, but I do feel like I'd be a good part of the scout group, that goes in search of food, water, and anything else we need. Mainly because I love adventures, and without internet, I'd die of boredom if I didn't get out every once and a while.
I guess I'd also help keep people's spirits up in times of need, not only cause I enjoy helping people, but also because I'm not sure I'd be all too phased by this scenario.
My contribution strongly depends on the group and their approach to survive. I would be okay with any kind of work as long as everyone applies oneself as much as they can and work together.
If I could choose between different groups I would pick one based on the social dynamics. No matter how highly skilled the members may be, if the group is unable to agree upon a decision, they are doomed.
The worst kind of members are "politicians". By that I mean people who like to agree with others to get sympathy points. I have some special people in mind and they all share this trait. It's a nuisance to discuss anything with them on a rational level. They just put you on the list of people they will systematically disagree with and become hostile. I think any group with too many of these people would be doomed in a survival scenario.
The ideal group for me consists of people who are able to speak with each other without getting offended. They should be able to think straight or shut their mouth and listen to the ones who do. I don't want to rely on defiant people with a hurt ego because they didn't get their will.
What role I would play and what I would contribute would depend on circumstance. In the absence of an artful leader, I would assume the position. In the presence of an artful leader, I'd rather sit back and let him/her handle the heat, and I could do my own part to be a useful contributor to the group. As long as we share views at least. And I would definitely make sure that we had some drugs.
