Funny, I know someone else named Dick.
"Sometimes hurting animals is fun just because other people don't like it" makes me think it's more about getting attention personally, if not trying to somehow set himself apart from "other people". Either way it becomes a motivation based on other people.

i used to hurt animals because it was interesting and i was playing, i was young.
expect that cat, i liked that cat and for some reason harming it was fun, but if i didnt like the cat i wouldnt bother. i dont know...
This is a pathetic thread, you're talking about hurting little animals as if that really makes you badass. "Bird nests = treasure hunt for a young psycho" lmao...
People who take pleasure in hurting helpless animals are those who feel frustrated and powerless in real life. Cowardice is also a big part of their personality.
I never really enjoyed the prospect of hurting animals, as unlike people they rarely had it coming. If it's being used for it's resources, or it's a matter of fighting off an invasive pest or an angry creature with an actual aim to fight that's one thing, but what's the point of doing it to something that has no idea why and no antagonistic motivations against you? It's a waste of time.
Curiosity can transform you, you know. You stop seeing the subjects holistically. They become objects of your need to satiate the hunger for knowledge.
I'd say they probe to see the reaction, and if it is a satisfying reaction, it gives them pleasure. Sadism.
