Does anyone think the desire of an individual regardless of what it is, is more beneficial or destructive to the human mind in the long run.

You can't assume to know if an individual's desire is beneficial or destructive unless you know what it is and even then 'beneficial' and 'destructive' are subjective.
For example: Murder is destructive to some people because it results in the taking of human life.
To others, murder is beneficial because it can be pleasurable, it can help reduce population numbers (in third world countries for example), it can help clean up the streets (by killing homeless people etc), it can help keep people's children safe (by killing child molestors) and it can end someone's suffering.
I'm coming after you
I'm summoning a hate crew
I'm coming at you
I'm solving all your issuesI am capable, self-powered
I am a hunter, self-conscious
I'm a machine, a perfect human being
Unchallenged, unseenThere's nothing you could use to bring me down
None of your friends will hear your call
In my Deathtrap Circus I'll be no clown
The sand on this arena will catch your fallI am capable, self-powered
I am a hunter, self-conscious
I'm coming at you
I'm solving all your issuesFeel the coldness of the blades in my Deathtrap Circus
I'll cut you up bitch, this is my hell hole
Fear the laughter and the shades in my Deathtrap Circus
Your wounds won't get stitched, your skin will go coldI'm coming after you
I'm summoning a hate crew
I'm a machine, a perfect human being
Unchallenged, unseen
Except then what is saved, and what was the cost for said saving?
Saving humanity for example is actually more destructive than letting portions of it die, and in that sense that makes both approaches destructive.
If you're meaning destructive in the self's mind, just because someone enjoys something doesn't mean it's not destructive. To enjoy something still destroys in it's own right. Even enjoying something for too long destroys your ability to appreciate it as much, it can't be avoided. Destruction is both a cost and an inevitability.
