I joined this forum out of curiosity and because I thought the forum name itself was interesting.  I didn't know that there were members who actually believe that they are sociopaths.

The sociopathic label itself isn't really relevant, considering nobody can actually be diagnosed as a sociopath. There are people here who have been diagnosed with AsPD and have psychopathic traits though.

My question is. Why would a sociopath join a forum looking for validation that they are in fact sociopaths?

The only person here who I have seen looking for validation is Josh/dexter. He's posted those damn psychopath test results everywhere as if they actually mean something. I really don't think anyone else here comes here seeking validation.

This forum is really just a place to hang out and socialize with others. A lot of things can be discussed more openly here than on many other, more strictly moderated forums.

I don't believe a sociopath would join a sociopath forum. Just for the fact that they would have nothing to gain by doing so.

Sociopaths like to socialize too. The benefit of being here is, as I mentioned before, certain things can be discussed more openly here than other places on the net.

Most if not all sociopaths do not consider themselves to be sociopaths.  In there eyes, there is nothing wrong with them. It is everyone else that are different.

That's true, but that doesn't mean a sociopath isn't aware of the label.

"That's not necessarily true. As Luna said, conversing with likeminded individuals (sociopath or not) can be beneficial in more ways than one with many different types of people"

I could see that to a extent. I was drawn here for the same reason.

Maybe for a rare select few that actually went out in search of why they are different.  I think most wouldn't even consider themselves to be the one who is different.

I don't know about that. You can see the differences between yourself and others when you start school as a child. Other kids are looking to form connections and are obviously more emotional and affectionate. Those differences tend to stand out.

Street credibility.

A learning experience? Normal people think they are sociopaths here, so you'd think interacting with them tells you what normal people think a sociopath does, says, and acts like.

But mostly, street credibility.

I'm here because I came back after several years hiatus, only to find that 4D (a forum specializing in all personality disorders) had vanished from the face of the earth.  A little searching for old 4D usernames landed me here.  I was there because I stumbled across it while first researching personality disorders in general, and found the regulars of the AsPD subforum to be especially good company.

That being said, I'm most likely psychopathic.  That's easily debatable, though.  Not because of any uncertainty of who I am, only an uncertainty of the exact criteria, as it pertains to me.  Either way, I have little interest in finding out for sure.  The label can be convenient, I'll say that.  It's easier to type or say "psychopathy" than "extremely minimal empathy towards humans and guilt regarding transgressions against them".

As for socio/psychopaths not being able to know what they are, I think that's bullshit.  I see no reason that they/we can't be just as self-aware as anyone else.  More so even, I'd imagine.  However, you're right about one thing.  I don't think there's anything wrong with me. : P

I'm also perplexed as to why some of you consider it a insult to be called a narcissist in the forum. Is aspd somehow superior to all other disorders?

Because narcs are whiny, pompous, delusional dimwits. : P

The way I've sorted it out is that the forum itself was sociopathic, not the people themselves. The forum required a tougher skin to navigate from a lack of rules and enough people that did not give a fuck about being friendly.

These days however I don't know what to think of the place.

That is a good way to look at it. There are some disturbed individuals in here either way you look at it. I would be curious to look at Instrument under a microscope. I don't think his clock is wound very tight.

Have you read the study that said internet trolls are sadistic or sociopathic or narcissists? That is the reason.

I came because i like to read things of a psychological nature and I like to cuss and not have my posts edited. At least one person came because he hates me. He likes to follow me, insult me and torment me.
