These were my ideas for how an independent web community might be able
to function without any human moderators. Obviously Luna has a better
idea of how to make this a reality. Feel free to disagree or to build
on any of these ideas.
Members: 3 types of members
1)
Anonymous- non registered members. They can see all posts (because
all posts are public) but they can only post to the primary board (with
limitation) and can participate in general chat. They cannot comment on
a post unless they created it.
2) Registered Members- Members who
register with a username get a profile page, avatar, start to build
karma, the ability to send/receive private mail, and the ability to
vote. Much like reedit, all registered members can vote posts (and
comments) up and down as they wish. Registered members also have a
"mute-anon" option in order to filter out messages and posts from
nonregistered members.
3) Donors- Donors are people who have made a
donation to the community webpage and its development and maintenance
costs. They do not get any special abilities in regard to voting, but
they do have their name and comments highlighted, and they can use
animated .GIF images as their avatar. Long term donors may be asked for
feedback on community maintenance and development.
Boards: 3 Types of posting boards
1)
The Over /b/oard- This is the primary board for the entire community.
Everyone can post to this board but Anons (non registered users) have a
limit on their daily posts. Every post can be voted up or down. Also,
each user can choose to either follow the post, or mute it. All posts
will be organized by how much positive attention they get. The more up
votes and follows a post gets, the closer to the top it is displayed.
Posts with more down votes and mutes will be at the bottom and deleted
sooner. If a post gets enough up votes, follows and comments, it will
get its own chat. Each post also need to have a tag in order to keep it
organized such as [videos] [sit ins] [hacks] [invasion] [DDOS] etc.
2)
The sub- /b/oards- These are subcategories designed for posts to be
focused on a single subject or Op. A crew might use a sub/b/oard to
organize, or an operation or even might have its own sub/b/oard. Much
like the G+ community there would be separate boards for posts related
to #OpNewBlood, #OpNSA,
The Million Mask March, Lulz, community events and changes, etc. Each
week the top posts from each sub/b/oard are cross posted to the over
/b/oard. The posts with the most down votes and mutes get cross posted
to the /T board
3) /T The Trash board This is where the
worst posts from the community go. They are only saved for a week,
until the next time we take the trash out. Posts are keep for a week so
we can learn from our mistakes and shame the posters.
Chat:
There will be 3 kinds of Chat. Each chat will have essentially the same
features, much like IRC, simple text based chat. As mentioned,
registered users can filter content from unregistered users. Also, all
registered users can mute any member they choose. Chat will also have
Private messaging. Luna already uses this in her community.
1)
General Chat- This is the chat open to all users. It is the largest
chat which the entire community can use. Ideally the up vote, down vote
and mute system could apply to chat eventually.
2) Sub Chats-
Each Sub /b/oard will also have its own Sub chat These function just
like the general chat with 2 major exceptions. First, only registered
members can participate in sub chat and second the subject of the sub
chat is limited to discussion related to the sub /b/oard like #OpNSA
3)
Ad Hoc Chat- These are chats that are dedicated to a single post. If a
post gets enough up votes, follows and comments, the post will get its
own dedicated chat to facilitate faster communication.
This is the core idea of how a community can run and be functional while using
the principles of democracy and internet freedom. I tried to
incorporate to the tools and lessons from Anonymous past with things
like IRC chat and /b.
