the Joker as portrayed in the last batman thing is a sociopath.

its the motivation thats important.

the joker was fully aware of his actions and did it because it fit his moral code and wanted to show off. he also enjoyed it, because he was winning.

Handicapping himself with the requirement of being both clever and entertaining is what makes him so great. It's no mystery why writers love having him be their subject matter, they can funnel all their darkest crap into something that is excused for being "from him".

"yeah, but if he was sad like batman, i wouldnt like him."
I take it you've never read The Killing Joke? Tim Burton's listed it as his favorite comic. I highly reccomend it as both a solid piece of writing and as a great piece of art. Their choice in color theory borderlines genius when paired with the art style that was employed.

"isnt his code just that civilization is fake, that nothing really matters and no one really believes it? That there is no 'morality'. Then he goes and proves it. while the real problem is that people are just weak, compared to him(The Joker), they can't stand by their own principles, because of fear."
No, that's closer to his beliefs. He's a complicated perfectionist when it comes to his "craft" both when written as a pre-planner and when written as a spontaneous macabre comedian. If his crimes lack a punchline, whether written as a dark nihilistic punchline or as a literal comedic punny one, he won't let his own crimes happen if they aren't in some way humorous.

At his core he's an action comic without ethics and a penchant for murder, constantly facing himself as his harshest critic. He even stopped Harley Quinn from killing Batman because her joke required too much effort to explain. He cares about it being done right.

In general, that's what I've always loved about Batman villains: Their motives are as clear as a psyche evaluation, but the situations they are thrown into shine so much depth and humanity into their altered functioning. Other comics tend to not try as hard to make their characters feel so human.

Except it's so much more than just being funny, he has a code I'd dare to say is more strict than Batman's.

Did you know they were a punk band?

Alan Moore who wrote the original Batman story is English and so are they. I think they probably took their name from that. I'm not sure, though.

He could have love, he just doesn't allow for it. It's always him turning others away. The writers even bothered retconning Son of the Demon's story of him and Talia Al Ghul's pairing from consensual into having been drugged and taken advantage of for the backstory of his only blood-related son.

Batman is too busy being married to Gotham to be with the ladies beyond Bruce Wayne PR.

yes, he has rules, but my point was they are not the "schemers" rules.

The difference is, while the "good schemers" have rules to try to keep people from hurting each other, the Joker MAKES people attack each other, "set their inner demons loose". He wants to show everyone that "normal" people are really all sick in the head, pretending to be "good". He also believes that everyone (at least most people) can be corrupted. He has a point, I think.

He has so much fun with Batman because making Bats crack up is a real challenge.

By the way, that ferry scene is really lame. Some thugh would blow the other boat up in 10 seconds if someone somehow made that "social experiment" in the real world.

The best incarnation of the Joker is the one from the 2013 "The Dark Knight Returns" cartoon. He just wants to kill everyone, with no excuses.

It makes for some of the best writing at least. Part of what makes The Killing Joke as good as it is is from his goal being to break The Commissioner, and what made Two Face into a character with more dimension in both The Dark Knight and The Animated Series was the fall after how much he was built into such a shining beacon.

"He has so much fun with Batman because making Bats crack up is a real challenge."
It's not always so cut and dry, that's simply one of his goals. He understands that convincing Batman to kill him is what would ultimately change him, and boy does Joker manage to hurt him when he finally goes too far:

It's so beautiful.

In some portrayals it's closer to this:
