Yeah, it's difficult to find a way to relate the realm of consciousness to the realm of physics, but I like to consider it this way. From what we have learned about this universe is that it is basicly a running computer program. Cause and effect play a very fundamental role along side the obvious unchanging forces of the universe.
As a consciousness, we disrupt that universe of cause and effect by being aware and observing, and manipulating it in such a way as to fasciliate our needs. So, in that way, the universe is now ruled by the fundamental forces which propogate through cause and effect, as well as our own personal will-- which exists within the framework of this universe, but we have yet to create any resonable theory as to the reason for it's existance.
We know that neurons are electrically excitable cells, and that they send and recieve information though electrical signals. We also know that there are over 100 billion cells within the Human brain all of which connect to eachother within a network. This tells me that electro magnetism-- which is one of the fundemental forces of the universe, could play a fundamental role in consciousness.
I'm not saying I 100% believe that we exist just within the electrical synapsis of the Neuron cells, or the neuron cells themselves. I think consciousness exists outside the physical realm. Perhaps a sort of law in itself.
In my mind, electro dynamics basicly proves that the universe is basicly a running program, and that things can certainly exist outside of it. In fact, they must if the universe is to exist at all.
If you ask me, it's obvious that there are quantum events that take place inside the brain. So in other words, things happen differently in the brain when we're not examining it's behavior with scanning equipment.
It's important to note: We already know that when a human is involved in experiments, the wave functions of probability are then set, and an answer, or rather, a behavior of the observed subject is then displayed.
Delving into this subject will lead one into topics that go out of bounds with what popular science, (the stuff media all suggests and agrees with) has to offer. Though lately, science's findings at times raises eyebrows in terms of what we might actually be witnessing.
Everything can change your life. Maybe its not all so practical or direct, but everything has the potential to change your life. Not that you should ponder questions such as this one because it can help you at the time, but pondering such a question does have the potential to change/help. Everything is connected.
So why not do it when you are wasting your time here anyway? If anything you will learn something about neurons or whatever comes in the way. Why learn it? Why not? Being productive and seeking knowledge is always what humans should aim at. Because these things are the only things that make sense.
Its about your mind set: to learn, explore, think, understand and at the end to outwit and outmaneuver what life gives you. And if you have this mind set, you should follow it even in such questions like this one.
I do find these concepts interesting... I found them more so as a younger man. I can see a little of what Who was trying to say early on, it can be pointless to spend too much time intellectualizing what can first, the chicken or the egg;you should enjoy deviled eggs with a nice chicken diner. At the end of the day it all boils down to your perception or conception of what is going on right here... right now.
Peace!
My theory is similar to lunas. I do believe we are a host in some fashion. I don't believe in god but I do think humans have had some help in our evolution. I think there is other life forms in the universe. I believe life outside of this world is in the forum of energy. If that is the case maybe when we do die our nerons could be some form of a life after death in the form of energy.
