Y'know, the thing about facts is they remain facts regardless whether you say them out loud or not. Running with the fart in the elevator analogy - if you fart in the elevator, others may politely choose not to pull funny faces, pointing out what a stink you made. But if you keep farting in the elevator whenever you're in it, people may choose to point out the stink you make, for they're fed up with it and want you to plug it up.
