This reminded me of the sound of one hand clapping...
I agree with Edvard. There are plenty of unattractive narcissistic people. Tell them that, and they will rationalize away your saying that to protect their self-perception. Such as believing you are a jealous person, bitter, gay, secretly want them, someone who hates themselves and puts others down to feel good about themselves, etc.
"do you believe narcissitic people are beautiful because they are narcissistic or do you think beautiful people are narcissitic because they are beautiful?"
Beauty itself is a matter of opinion.
In my opinion, there is a time when narcissism itself is beautiful, and that is when the world tells a person they cannot, and the person says "Yes I can, or yes I am". Then we see outside the box expressions which are only truly ugly to the skeptics.
There was a time, the world deemed it impossible to fly. Those who've tried and failed, and kept trying were indeed narcissists swimming against the current. But they believed it was possible, they just never figured it out. The Wright Brothers, I think also had a degree of narcissism, for what they were doing at the time was infact, madness. Making a machine to carry someone off the ground for the first time, but also succeeding to score such a goal will fan a narcissistic ego at any degree of narcissism.
Narcissism is only ugly when it goes against the truth by anothers perception, just as proven beauty is ultimately governed by the perception of others.
While everyone else is going by the books, following and with expectations, the narcissist is bending the rules, doing things their way, starting businesses under the comfortable guise of grandiosity. Being in that kind of state is socially odd. Those who point and critisize our subject, have internal issues, for they rely on others to manage their state of being.
The narcissist that is destructive to themselves by being inconsiderate of others, has more to do with unintelligence, as opposed to their degree of narcissism, though their narcissism makes them more hardwired into their grim state, thus we can see in this case the narcissism itself threw considerable beauty by perception out the window.
One thing that may be in a narcissist's favor (and a sociopath's) is his unwavering confidence in what he is and what he's capable of doing. Most people respond positively to self-confidence and since beauty is not a fact but instead a matter of perception, people may very well instinctively feel that narcissists are slightly more attractive than the average joe (or jane). That is, of course, till the narcissist in question shows his true obnoxious self.
