It is my belief that all people are born with qualities, that over time have been given a bad connotation.
One such example is selfishness.
by GypsyYou might want to start by defining what is 'good' and 'evil' before going off in search of their origins. Personally I believe in neither.
Now that is a good question. I also don't believe in good or evil. That is something we (humanity) have created. I do believe in crazy tho.
Good would be best defined as someone who lives his or her life by the bible.
Evil would be going against what is written in the bible.
by Bobby LoxlinToo simplistic. For there to be agreement on what constitutes good or evil, there needs to be an objective gauge to measure against.
I tend to go with:
Good: Facilitates social cohesion
Evil: Facilitates social entropy
We is god and I is the devil
This again is simplistic. In order for there to be social cohesion there needs to be a group, and this almost inevitably leads to the persecution of the 'other'; either those of a different group or those who don't conform to set norms within the group. Some of the most 'evil' players in history like Hitler and Stalin were far from individualistic; they genuinely thought they were acting for pro-social reasons, for the good of the majority.

Oh dear, I believe I may own some fabric made from a mix of wool and linen, so I must be going straight to hell.

You might go to hell if you believe in such a thing. I don't believe for a second that there is a heaven or a hell. You wanted a definition of good and evil. so I came up with one that most people can identify with.
And in this situation, while persecution of the "other" promotes social cohesion among the majority side, it promotes social entropy across the whole group. Therefore, evil
Hitler et al might well have believed that they were operating in a pro-social way, but the end result was a massive clusterfuck. The proof is in the pudding, not the chef.
