why do you choose to use such an outdated design? i understand you have a large user base, so it's okay to feel.. complacent about your traffic, but i assure you that if you were to invest in a more modern and fluid design.. your traffic will only improve instead of stagnate.
you're okay now becasue most messaging boards still function in a way similar to yours, but that's becasue messaging boards don't make enough on their own to advance the technology with nothing but financial clout. it requires a passionate developer who cares about the dynamics of web communities, and also who understand their community.

The way I see it, the AsPD forum was the ONLY subforum with a healthy perspective on that entire site. If you check out the rest, it's all a clusterfuck of various degrees of mental illness feeding into itself. (Of course, unless your idea of a "healthy perspective" is hugs.)
In short, the AsPD forum was one of the rare venues on the internet facilitating normal conversations between normal people.
Glad I'm not the only one who sees this. But there is also a lot of sickness there, just amazingly less than anywhere else in the website.

I don't like "modern and fluid". "Modern and fluid" is the sales pitch for "fugly retarded kindergartener design aesthetic" (case in point iOS7 - my biggest regret ever installing it).

so your solution is to use old, outdated software? that doesn't seem so innovative. what you need is a young tech company. sure this forum isn't much to look at now, but it is quite young, and we have big plans for it in the upcoming months.
i understand that old dogs don't like to learn new tricks, but you must keep in mind that this is web-technology. computers, web browsers, and society itself evolves through time. you should too.. and you can't do that using phpbb. your community isn't just a bulletin board. at least, it shouldn't be.
