I'm failry certain you're confusing Adderall with some SSRI like Lexapro or Zolof, which isn't unheard of. I've known of multiple doctors recommending SSRI's to help people correct ADHD Symptoms (but usually only in conjunction with some other psychological issue).

Adderall does have a different effect with everyone but what you describe is certainly not the norm. Infact I know many people who use it (I live near a college town) and I've never heard of anyone describe it the way you just did. 

Yeah I've seen addy wreck people who missused it... Even when I was On it, I was very selective about when I allowed myself to dose. It's not something I recommend anyone to do as part of their every day life routine.

Adderall xr and depakote works good for me. The combo of the two will help you sleep if you have problems with the Adderall keeping you awake. The Depakote for me is used as a mood stabilizer.
