Schizophrenia + ASPD

"you're going to want to be diagnosed as a schizophrenic if possible in order to protect yourself from being diagnosed with AsPD."

Why would that matter? Others won't generally see a diagnosis unless they prove to be a danger to themselves or others.

It's situational, I suppose - if they're trying to avoid a prison sentence, many people want to be considered insane. Of course, commitment to a forensic hospital is usually indefinite and sometimes inmate-patients end up serving more time in a forensics hospital than they would in prison....

I suppose that at any rate either diagnosis would exclude you from any careers which require medical background checks, which was what I was thinking when I wrote my response, though "schizophrenia in full remission" is going to look less terrible than "antisocial personality disorder" next to your name in any file.

You're right.

I have always wondered which sentence would really be worse, asylum or prison. Both keep you somewhere against your will, so it becomes a matter of judging the crowds in each. Would you prefer 24/7 an environment of thugs, or 24/7 an environment of crazy people, where finding decent conversation may be impossible?

At least asylum might provide pills I guess.

That's pretty much how I'm thinking of it, too.

Though it is possible sometimes to convince the forensic psychiatrist in prison that you have an anxiety disorder for which you need diazepam, which you can then sell, you're going to be more popular if you can somehow smuggle cigarettes into the prison.

I'd take the diazepam any day myself rather than provide OTHER people with some kind of buzz (whatever buzz one gets from nicotine), so I guess it's the asylum for me too...
