I believe genetics plays a part, but I think my upbringing was a major contributor to how I turned out.
Every personality disorder uses defense mechanisms. So, it is not surprising that many abused children develop them at some point in their life.
I'm naughty but nice.
Never been traumatized.
Always got my way by charm and intelligence (seldom intimidation).
I don't really like violence, though I understand the excitement it affords me, albeit a kind that I don't really care about in the end.
After many personal trials (adventures) and trepidations observed of other people I was able to come to my own conclusions:
I'm a half-elf fighter/wizard.
Or perhaps I have played too much D&D in both real and imaginary life.
My wizard friends just let me do my own thing, while my fighter friends appreciate my stewardship.
In the end it is both a group and an individual commitment to slay as many enemies as you can and to progress the party towards a communally agreeable end.
