Shall we call it the educated guess from an observer?
I do enjoy being proved correct - that one bites readily...

That can only test if the person has a specific set of principals and ideals(aka yours), but it wont necessarily tell you what his are and there is a chance he could get you in his pocket, if he notices the test coming :)
I don't get anything out of it. It's just deciding whether I approve of something or not.
If you're asking instead what I get out of vocalizing my judgments, that depends on the situation. As a general rule, if I'm talking to someone I don't care about, I'm probably just being rude. If I'm talking to someone I do care about, I'm expressing frustration. This isn't always the case, but it's the basic framework.
Very few things we all have in common. I would venture to say 99% of us judge others. We judge for many reasons. We judge others to decide what type of "relationship" we are going to have, we judge companies and decide about employment. We judge in order to make ourselves feel superior.
Judgement is not isolated to the human species. It exists in all.
by wahooSo...I was talking to Demon about judging others, because I'm curious. She suggested I start a thread, so here it is.
We're all 'guilty' of judging other people, whether it be on looks, job, finances, etc. My question, to you, is why? What pleasure, satisfaction, gratification, etc. do you get out of it? For me...I'm not sure. Maybe a sense of superiority? Perhaps you know yourself better that I and can shed some light?
Judging can be seen as a form of racism to some people.

There's a big difference between judging an individual and judging an entire race of people.
Everyone is different.
Judging an entire race is ignorant because you're judging every man, woman and child of that race on the actions of a few. It's the equivalent of an abused woman hating every single man just because she was treated like shit by a few. Not every single person of that particular gender or race is at fault. The individuals who took the action are.
If you're going to judge someone based on their actions, why not judge only those who are to blame?
Indifference is much better than hate (which is all racism basically is). Hate is a waste of energy. It clouds your mind and prevents you from thinking rationally. Most people aren't worth hating.
It inflates my ego because on the inside I am a little pipsqueak who has little to no self-confidence. I know that I am very unattractive to the opposite sex and even my parents hate me, which in turn fuels my hatred towards other people based on superficial characteristics that I deem important enough to make my own opinions of them. Oh wait, did I just describe all the empaths on this forum? My bad...
