Thou shall not covet the cattle of the gods. (from The Egyptian Book of the Dead)
Thou shall not pee out of the window. ( from The Suburban Book of the Dead)
Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.
They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians.
"Teacher," they said, "we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren't swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?"
But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, "Whose image is this? And whose inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied. Then he said to them,
"So give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
(Matthew 22:15-21)
Here is a good example for you right here. This individual has deep insecurities and possible fears as well "as you can clearly tell" as well as a delusional sense of self, and perspective of life which may present him as Schizotypal. Here, now you have a real life example, or internet example to put simply.
by Tryptamine3. Religion as a means to quell existential anxiety. Existing for a finite period of time is a hard pill for many of us to swallow. Believing in an afterlife releases that burden from the mind.
Its a shame Religion couldn't make the possibility of an after life more credible , whether the hierarchy believe in it or not.
With Catholicism.... Expecting people to believe in the resurrection of 'Jesus Christ lamb of the Lord 'is ...well yes almost schizotypal?
They could have left that parable out....It serves nothing except to add to our confusion about which delusion may be truth.

(Mark 11:25-26 NIV)
"If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."
(Matt 5:29-30 NIV)
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also."
(Matt 5:38-39 NIV)
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
(Matt 6:19-21 NIV)
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
(Matt 10:8 NIV)
"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet."
(John 13:14 NIV)
Those aren't part of the 10 commandments, bro.
by wahooThose aren't part of the 10 commandments, bro.
Those are Jesus's commandments, the ten commandments is from Judaism, and Jesus's commandments is what separates the new testament from the old, and I said the new testament.
Edit: The words of Jesus. The ten commandments weren't his words.
Jesus replied:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40)
It's strange that Christianity was originally a hardcore cult whose followers were executed before it was made the state religion where Jesus was turned into a divine figurehead that was born on the same day as Mithras.
I think what you said about Buddhism is accurate, that it was a change from a religion that was designed to cement the foundations of social order into trying to achieve personal salvation/enlightenment. Another weird parallel is that both Buddhism and Christianity separate the spirit from the body. Like Obsidian said, Jesus was a zealot who encouraged removing of offending body parts to purify yourself, and Buddhists have used fasting to the point of emaciation. In a way, both religions portray salvation as the destruction of the earthly self to become enlightened/enter the Kingdom of God.
To add to my other post, what I said about lust and Judaism wasn't a good example...Hindus believing that if you're suffering for no reason, you must have done something to deserve it in a past life is more similar to the Jewish Book of Job, where if you're suffering for no reason, it's because God is testing you.

It's somewhat well-known that Jesus wasn't born in December but closer to summer. They changed the date to the day when heathens celebrated the sun, because it's around that time the days will start to get longer(the sun will be up longer).
They did that a lot with the dates of holidays(holy days) because it would be an easier transition for the heathens to Christianity.
